Cristiano Ronaldo Set for Old Trafford Return in Wayne Rooney Testimonial

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to make his return to Manchester
United and Old Trafford next year after reportedly
accepting an invitation to take part in Wayne Rooney's
testimonial to recognise the England striker's long years of
service to the club.
According to the Daily Star, it is believed that Rooney
called his long-time friend and former team-mate to ask
him personally.
A source told the tabloid newspaper, "Ronaldo is a busy
man but there was no way he would miss something like
this. It promises to be an all-star cast, but Ronaldo will be
the biggest of the lot. He might even upstage Wayne
himself."
Ronaldo's presence would certainly appear to fall in line
with Rooney's tease of "one or two surprises" when the
game was announced earlier this week.
The Portuguese superstar recently featured in a BBC
documentary which followed Rooney as he broke Sir
Bobby Charlton's England goalscoring record and it is
clear they are still very close.
During their five years as United colleagues, Rooney and
Ronaldo were central to the club's success. A brief on-field
spat at the 2006 World Cup threatened to wreck their
blossoming friendship, but they quickly put it behind them
and went on to win the Premier League title in each of the
next three seasons.
With those two at the forefront, United were one of the
most exciting teams in all of Europe and took their place
as the continent's best with Champions League glory in
2008.
The game on 3rd August 2016 will mark only the third time
that Ronaldo has played at Old Trafford since his world
record £80m move to Real Madrid.
He was welcomed like a long lost family member when he
arrived with Real in the Champions League in 2013, while
he also captained Portugal at the famous stadium for an
international friendly against Argentina last year.
