EDO State APC POLITICAL STUNTS

Nigeria with cheap electoral propaganda, as we can see the political atmosphere of Edo State is at its peak again as a result of the expiration of Adams oshiomole's second tenure but i am less concerned about that, and I only want to pinpoint my reaction towards this picture which comprises of Oshiomole(the outgoing EDO STATE GOVERNOR , Godwin OBASEKI (the APC gubernatorial candidate in Edo State) and Co . this picture tells me that Nigerians are fools, using eating of corns in the street which u have not step for decades as a parameter to convince people to vote for u, I'm neither an anti APC nor an anti PDP or any political party but politics should be more than sympathy, in 1990 Nigerians gave Oluwasegun Obasanjo a sympathetic votes simply because he was just released from prison and at the end we all knew what the result of his tenure was, in 2012 Jonathan came up with i have no shoe coupled with how lucky he was to rise to the position of deputy governor and also Governor later to VP and when he wanted to contests for president a sympathetic votes was also given to him, we also saw what the outcome was, last year a sympathetic vote was also given to the man from daura president Mohammed Buhari because he has contested for three consecutive times without winning and because of his endurance we voted for him,now my question is should the people of Edo State give a sympathetic votes to OBASEKI the APC flag bearer because he ate corn while walking in the street which he has never done before. Let's put an end to all these political stunts. when did u see any picture of Donald Trumph with any sympathetic postures rather they would had an open debate, convince the people with there manifestos and people would ask them series of questions through this means as an individual you would know who you are going to vote for but the reverse is the case in Nigeria. All what they know is to come up with a useless friction which would make people to give them sympathetic vote. But I belief that one day there would be a turn-around in the politics of Nigeria Comrade Akanbi Azeez Olalekan

'Most Wanted Job Scammer’ Arrested

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has arrested one of
Nigeria’s most wantef notorious fraudsters involved in
online advertising scams on non-existing vacancies in
government agencies, PRNigeria is reporting.
The suspected kingpin, whose real name was given as
Abubakar Rilwan, had been declared wanted by some
security agencies in the country before his arrest.
A top customs officer stated: “Abubakar Rilwan, who is
evidently disabled is one of the principal actors and
suspect in a job/auction scam syndicate. Whatever he
lacks in physical ability, he makes up for in his
exceptional ability to manipulate and swindle his victims.
“He has duped desperate job and auction seekers to the
tune of over 20 million naira, sometimes using the
services of lawyers.
“In one of his escapades, he collected money from 7
(seven) job seekers in Taraba State, issued them fake
appointment letters, and caused them to travel all the way
to Bayelsa State for fake training. They got there before
realizing they were duped.”
While Mr. Rilwan is currently in the custody of the Nigeria
Customs Service undergoing further investigation, other
security agencies that had declared him wanted for
related offences are waiting to interrogate him.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs Service, Wale
Adeniyi confirmed the arrest.

Ooni Of Ife And His Crew Cause Panic During Traditional Performance In Washington D.C. Photos

The Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and his crew
caused quite a scare as they performed traditionally at the
Smithsonian Museum of African Art, Washington DC
yesterday June 21st. The Washington D.C fire brigade
stormed the venue after they were called in following
displays of fire and smoke.

They later left after they were
informed of what was really happening. See pictures below;

PDP Senators Withdraw Support For Buhari’s Government

Saraki, Ekweremadu for trial June 27
From Fred Itua and Godwin Tsa,Abuja
SENATORS elected on the platform of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, formally resolved to
withhold their support for the President Muhammadu
Buhari-led Federal Government.
They cited the actions of the All Progressives Congress
(APC)-led government to- wards their party members
since taking over the central government as reasons.
The resolution was taken following the court summon on
the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, along with
the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over alleged forgery
of the Senate Standing Rules.
The Senators who met at a secret location in Abuja said
they would communicate their new position to the national
leadership of the party, after which it would be publicly
announced at a press conference.
A source at the meeting said a delegation comprising one
Senator from each of the geo-political zones, along with
Ekweremadu, would convey the position of the PDP
Senate caucus to the leadership and report back to- day.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja , yesterday,
officially summoned Saraki, Ekweremadu, former clerk to
the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa and
outgoing Deputy Clerk, Ben Efeturi, over their alleged
involvement in the forgery of Senate Standing Order in
2015.
The summon was effected through a substituted service
which was pasted at the corridor along the Senate
President’s Office. According to the summon, Saraki,
Ekweremadu, Maikasuwa and Efeturi are to appear
before the court on Monday, June 27.
The inability of the Federal Government to effect service
of court summons yesterday stalled their arraignment
before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory
(FCT) on the alleged forgery of the Senate Rules.
When the case came up yesterday, before Justice Yusuf
Halilu none of the accused persons was in court and no
lawyer appeared for them.
The prosecution counsel, David Kaswe, attributed the
development to the inability of the bailiff to effect service
on the accused persons.
Parts of the summons read: “By oral application dated
21st June, 2016 moved by D.E Kaswe, Principal State
Counsel Federal Ministry of Justices in this case praying
the court for:
“An order of this Honourable Court granting leave to the
complainant/ applicant to serve the criminal summon on
the defendants by substituted means to wit by pasting it
at the Notice Board of the National Assembly Three Arms
Zone, Abuja.
“And after hearing D.E Kaswe with A.A Kaltingo Esq,
counsel for the complainant/ Applicant moved the court
orally for the above relief. “
Also included in the summon, were statements already
volunteered by Maikasuwa and Efeturi on their alleged
involvement in the forgery.
Maikasuwa in his own statement said: “The Senate
Standing Orders used in seventh Senate was not known
to me. The Clerk of the Senate is in position to know. I
was not aware of the amendment that was made to the
Standing rules.”
However, Efeturi said the Senate leadership handed the
2015 Standing Rules as amended by their convention and
practice to him.
But the Senate in its first reaction to the allegation, stated
that amendment of the standing rules was done by the
National Assembly bureaucracy.

Retired army officer hangs self in Calabar

CALABAR—The remains of a retired captain of the
Nigerian Army, Friday William, found dangling on a
mango tree outside his apartment in Calabar, have
been taken to his hometown in Mkpat Enin, Akwa Ibom
State.
The father of eight, according to a neighbour, Abasi
Imoh, allegedly tied a rope on the mango tree outside
his apartment at 34, Edim Otop Street in the night while
his family was asleep and hung himself for a reason
yet to be ascertained.
“We woke up in the morning to behold the body
dangling on the mango tree outside the compound and
we do not know what was responsible for his action”.
Abasi stated.
The neighbour said before hanging himself, that the
retired captain reportedly sent a text message to his
son, who lives in Port Harcourt at about 10pm, to
condole with him over his death and advised him to be
strong to take care of his siblings.
“He sent the text to his first son at about 10 pm to
condole with him over his own death, but the son did
not see the message until he got a call the next
morning that his father had committed suicide and I
feel he had tied the rope ready for the act before he
sent the text”.
Abasi said the man had about three cars and got a lot
of money from his retirement benefits two years ago
and was living well which is the reason many people
are surprised with his action.
‘He was not poor because he had three cars and had
built a house in his village and was generally doing well
that is why we were surprised with his action.”

Fayemi’s huge debt crippled Ekiti — Fayose

Ado-Ekiti —Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has
blamed his inability to pay workers salaries on the huge
debt inherited from the immediate past administration
of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
According to Fayose, the N25 billion bonds from the
Capital Market and another N31 billion commercial
loans, by the Fayemi’s administration are responsible
for the poor financial condition of the state and the
challenges faced in the payment of workers’ salaries.
Fayose, who stated this while reacting to the no-shift-
ground stance of the striking workers, said about N1.2
billion is being deducted monthly from the state’s
allocation to service the loans which the Kayode
Fayemi administration took in its four years in the
saddle.
The governor said if the N1.2 billion being deducted is
added to the state’s monthly allocations, his
administration will not owe workers.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu
Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Fayose took a swipe at
the All Progressives Congress, APC, which he said had
been encouraging the labour not to call off the strike
action.
He said it was quite unfortunate that the Fayemi
administration also diverted the N850 million meant for
the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board and
thereby leading to the suspension of the state from the
Universal Basic Education Commission programmes
since 2012.
Fayose said he was surprised that when Fayemi took
the loans which now made payment of workers’
salaries difficult, the labour did not kick against the
moves.
The governor said the strike had been politicised
because of his criticism of the bad policies of the
Federal Government and his fight against tyranny.
APC asks DMO to clarify Ekiti debts profile
Perturbed by the claim of the Governor, APC in Ekiti
State has pleaded with the Debts Management Office
(DMO) in the Federal Ministry of Finance to make
another public clarification on the status of the state’s
debts to put to rest inconsistent debt figures being
presented by Governor Ayodele Fayose to the public to
justify non-payment of workers’ salaries and pensions
after taking 20 months federal allocations and N9.6bn
bailout cash.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo
Olatunbosun, the party said this became imperative as
the governor had been giving inconsistent figures on
different occasions that had cast doubts on the
integrity of the state’s financial application.
On Fayose’s claim that the Fayemi administration
borrowed another N31 billion commercial loan apart
from the N25 billion bond, nothing could be farther
from the truth. Olatunbosun challenged him to provide
evidence of this loan and what it what used for as
records are there in the office of the Account General if
he is sure of his facts. The truth of the matter is that
Fayose has resorted to blatant lies to cover up his
many shady financial transactions and misapplication
of state funds, Olatunbosun said.”

Pickpockets rattle guests as Anambra deputy governor buries father

THE burial of Sir Richard Okeke, the father of Anambra
State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, on Friday,
was like a carnival for pickpockets.
No fewer than 10 cell phones, several handbags and
cash were stolen from guests at the funeral, which
took place at Enugu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government
Area of the state.

The Master of Ceremony, Mr. Chido Obidiegwu,
disturbed by the ugly trend, continually warned guests
to guard their phones and other personal effects as
complaints of missing phones had increased.
At the graveside, when the patriarch of the Okeke
family was been lowered to his final rest place, a
female voice shouted, “My money, my money”.
She pounced on a young man near her and N100,000
was found in the young man’s pocket.
Security agents went for the man; beat him thoroughly
before whisking him away.
At the VIP tent, one of those who lost their phones and
other valuables, Mrs Roseline Okoye, said she lost
N50,000 and a phone.
She said, “I bought that phone just last week and it
was a costly phone. I bought it N60,000. They took
everything with my handbag. There was N50,000 in
that bag. What is all this?
“How can this happened in this high class VIP tent.
No poor person was allowed into this tent where I was
sitting. How can this happen here? I’m confused”, she
lamented.
Pa Richard Okeke died at the age of 88. He was a
retired engineer and contractor. His funeral was
attended by top class politicians in the country.
Former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme; Anambra
State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano; his Enugu
counterpart, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Deputy Senate
President, Ike Enweremadu, were among the
dignitaries that bade the deceased farewell.
Others at the church service held at Immanuel
Anglican Church, Enugwu-Ukwu were former
Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, and five
deputy governors of Delta, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi,
Cross River and Adamawa.
Former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke;
National Assembly members, Anambra State speaker,
Hon. Rita Maduagwu; industrialist, Chief Godwin
Ezeemo; Senator Uche Ekwunife were also in
attendance.
The Dean of Anglican Communion, Archbishop
Christian Efobi, led over 100 other clerics, including 12
archbishops to the ceremony.
In his sermon, The Most Rev. Efobi, blamed Christians
for the numerous problems bedeviling the country
including Boko-Haram, Niger Delta Avengers, among
others.
He said Christians were not strong in their prayers to
avert some of the problems confronting the country,
adding that all hands must be on deck to salvage
Nigeria from its current situation.
He said, “Christians need to pray hard for President
Buhari to take Nigeria to the Promised Land, all these
problems confronting this nation were because we
have not prayed hard and this is the time for that.”
Efobi described the late Richard Okeke as a unique
person that served God with all his heart.
Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, in his
speech, described the deceased as a great man and
implored the children to emulate their father’s legacy.
Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, thanked
everybody that had given honour to his father.
He said his father’s death was a celebration of life,
noting that his father lived a simple life that should be
emulated by all.
He said, “There is nothing sad about this process and
my father left a wonderful legacy for the family and
for everybody to emulate. Therefore, this is real
celebration”

No June 12 holiday in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo

Indications have emerged that this year’s celebration
of the anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential
election in the South-West may not be marked with
the usual.
Unlike what obtained before, only Osun State declared
a public holiday for the event while Lagos will only
hold a talk cum symposium. Other states,
investigations, revealed, have no definite programmes
lined up for the day. There are six states in the South-
West geo-political zone.
In Ekiti, Governor Ayodele Fayose said he would not
declare a public holiday in Ekiti State to celebrate
June 12.
His Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, simply
said, “No” when asked by our correspondent if the
governor would declare a public holiday.
Adelusi did not give a reason for the decision.
The Ondo State Government said it did not declare a
public holiday to commemorate June 12 because the
day fell on a Sunday which is a resting day for public
and private workers.
But the state Commissioner for information, Mr.
Kayode Akinmade, said apart from the day being a
Sunday, the state has a special way of celebrating
June 12.
He said, “ We have our own special way of marking
June 12, tomorrow (today) will mark four years of our
Free Shuttle Bus Scheme and what it stands for is to
ensure that we democratise access to good things of
life and we want to ensure that we use the
instrumentality of government to help the less-
privileged.
“Abiola’s philosophy when he was alive was
egalitarianism; life abundance for all. It is not about
organising events to mark the day, it is about
practising the tenet, and the practice can be seen in
our programme in Ondo State.”
The Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Taiwo
Adeoluwa, told one of our correspondents that the
state government would not declare Monday a work-
free day in marking this year’s June 12 celebration.
Adeoluwa said all the events for June 12 would be
held on Sunday.
He disclosed that there would be democracy walk by
government officials, civil society organisations, and
students, among others to the Oke-Ido ancestral home
of the late Abiola.
He said, “Every June 12 of each year is declared a
work-free day in the state. This year it fell on a
Sunday, and we shall mark it on that day. We will not
kill another working day by declaring Monday another
work-free day.”
A source in the Oyo State Government said there was
no event slated for the celebration of the day by the
state government.
“As far as I am concerned, I am not aware of any
event or activity slated for the day by the government.
I am also not aware that a public holiday may be
declared,” the source told one of our correspondents.

Drowned Unilag students buried amid tears

Tears flowed freely on Friday at the Ikoyi Cemetary,
Lagos, as the remains of Adesola Ogunmefun and
Olufunmilayo Odusina, two University of Lagos post-
graduate students who drowned and died during one
of their friend’s birthday party at a private beach in the
Lekki area of the city on June 6, 2016, were finally
laid to rest.
An emotional tribute service which started as early as
11:00am, saw family members, friends and well
wishers of the departed young women pour out in
droves to bid them farewell.
In glowing words, mourners at the event paid tributes
to the victims who many described as very charming
and promising.
Sunmibola Ogunmefun, a sibling to the late Adesola,
said even though the family is in mourning, they are
consoled by the good life she lived and impact she
made during her sojourn on earth.
“Very simplistic, you’ve never been the kind to take
things too seriously and your smile is from ear to ear.
Keeping malice with you was futile, you’d always find
a way to break the ice…never one to hold grudge.
“Sola, in your short years on earth, you’ve connected
us with so many people and your death has brought
reconciliation…you are indeed a special one,” she said
while paying homage to her late sister.
Modupe Mujota, a boss to the late Adesola, described
her as not only a workaholic but also a young lady
with a warm heart.
In her tribute, she said, “Desola took care of me. She
would wake me up daily at 6am and like a child I
would often beg her for 15 more minutes. As many
times as I asked, she would oblige me, she was that
caring.
“Desola, our loss is heaven’s gain, light it up as
always with your brilliant smiles. We love you dearly.”
Born on April 12, 1989, Adesola attended the Federal
Airport Authority of Nigeria Staff School Ikeja, Lagos,
Home Science Association of Nigeria Secondary
School and Covenant University before proceeding to
the University of Lagos for a Masters degree in
International Law.
Until her painful demise, she worked as Personal
Assistant to the Commissioner of Education, Science
and Technology, Ogun State.
Odusina equally described as an easy-going and
lovable young woman, was born on February 13,
1991.

Mimiko pleads with striking workers over hospital patients

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has made
a fresh plea to the state’s striking workers to return to
work in the interest of the people.
Mimiko, who made the plea on Friday in Akure, urged
the workers to consider the effects their actions were
having on the people, especially those with health
challenges.
He said the workers’ action had begun having negative
effect on patients in the state’s hospitals.
The governor said he was ready to pay health, local
government workers and teachers to enable his
administration to generate some money.
Mimiko, therefore, appealed to them to call off the
one-week old strike and consider his commitment not
to retrench any worker in spite of the dwindling
resources accruable to the state.
While stressing that the continuation of the strike
would retard the economic growth of the state, the
governor asked the people of the state to see the
current situation in the country as a collective
challenge that “we must face and proffer solution to.”
According to him, his administration has been prudent
with the meagre resources accrued to the state to
ensure adequate security of lives and property, as well
as provide infrastructure.
The governor said, “We are in a very difficult time in
Nigeria and I have absolutely nothing against your
protest. I can’t imagine somebody working diligently
or not too diligently, but worked for five months
without pay, especially in an economy that depends
mainly on salary.

“Your protest has been peaceful and that is what
democracy is all about. People must be able to
ventilate their feelings just like you are ventilating
yours. But it is important for us to know the truth
because it is the truth that can set us free.”

Obama to honour Ooni as NYC declares Yoruba Day

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, was on
Friday hosted by the indigenes of Ile-Ife, Osun State,
resident in the United States.
The monarch, with his entourage, was received at the J.F.
Kennedy Airport, New York, by leaders of Ife indigenes
and other Nigerians in the US on Thursday.
A New York City Senator, Kevin Parker, and the Brooklyn
Borough President, Eric Adams, said the city had secured
a proclamation to declare Monday, June 13, 2016 as
Yoruba Day.
They said the action was to honour the monarch.
According to a statement, the Ooni has also been billed to
visit President Barack Obama at the White House, where
he will receive an award.
The statement added that a number of programmes had
been scheduled to honour the traditional ruler while in the
country.
As part of activities in his visit to the US, the Ooni will on
Sunday, June 12, 2016, be the Special Guest of Honour at
the prestigious Odunde festival.
The festival, which promotes the culture of the Yoruba
race, was created in 1975 by Lois Fernandez and Ruth
Arthur, and attracts about 500,000 people annually.
The event will provide an opportunity for the monarch to
interact with the over 3,000 Ife indigenes in the US on
how to develop Ile-Ife.
The statement said, “On the same day, the Museum of the
Contemporary African Diaspora Arts will receive the
monarch in a private reception as well as a public forum
session.
“Expected at the event will be Brooklyn Borough President
and a New York City Public Advocate, Leticia James. The
monarch will then move to the Mid-West and other parts
of the country to attend economic and leadership
summits before being received by President Barack
Obama through The White House Office of Faith-based
and Neighbourhood Partnerships.”
The Chairman of the Grand Reception Planning
Committee and one of the leaders of Ife Ooye North
America group, Chief Olubunmi Awopileda, said, “All Ife
natives in the US are excited and energised for this
epochal occasion. It will be an occasion to showcase our
very rich culture with our king as the symbol.”

Buhari, Ghani, Kerry join UK anti-corruption summit

The presidents of Afghanistan, Colombia and Nigeria will
join US Secretary of State John Kerry at an anti-corruption
summit in London next week, which British leader David
Cameron said Sunday will make the issue a global priority.
The prime minister wants those attending Thursday's day-
long summit to sign the "first ever declaration against
corruption" that would acknowledge the damage it causes
and commit them to tackling it.
"For too long there has been a taboo about tackling this
issue head on. The summit will change that. Together we
will push the fight against corruption to the top of the
international agenda where it belongs," Cameron said.
Issues under discussion will include how to "lift the lid on
practices that allow the corrupt to act with impunity", he
said in a statement released by Downing Street.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Bahari, Afghanistan's
Ashraf Ghani and their Colombian counterpart Juan Manuel
Santos will be among those attending, as will Norwegian
Prime Minister Erna Solberg.
IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, World Bank
president Jim Yong Kim, and the head of advocacy group
Transparency International, Jose Ugaz, are also expected.
Russia's foreign ministry announced it would be sending
deputy foreign minister Oleg Syromolotov.
The summit will also address corruption in sport, with
representatives of sports committees, believed to include
football governing bodies FIFA and UEFA, due to attend.
Cameron said corruption was the "root of so many of the
world's problems", from holding back economic growth to
undermining security "by pushing people towards extremist
groups".
"The battle against corruption will not be won overnight. It
will take time, courage and determination to deliver the
reforms that are necessary," he said.
Since the G8 summit in 2013, Cameron has led international
calls to tackle aggressive tax avoidance and evasion and
global corruption, and is hoping to build on the momentum
for change sparked by revelations from the Panama Papers.
But campaigners have warned the British leader must also
act on issues within his own jurisdiction, namely the
secrecy of British tax havens and the way anonymous
money flows through the London property market.
The publication of millions of files from Panamanian firm
Mossack Fonseca revealed the large-scale use by wealthy
individuals and firms of anonymous companies to evade
scrutiny, many of them in British overseas territories.
Cameron's late father was named in the files for an
investment fund he had set up in the Bahamas in the late
1980s, but the premier insisted he had done nothing wrong.

Oba Lipede’s ‘missing’corpse sparked trouble in Abeokuta’s palace — Chief Alani Bankole

The incident occurred in 2005, few days after the immediate
past Alake of Egbaland, Oba Oyebade Lipede, joined his
ancestors, according to the father of a former Speaker of
the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, Chief Alani
Bankole, at a launch of his book, titled, ‘ Alake of
Egbaland:The Succession Dynamics’.
Alake Gbadebo flanked by a former governor of Ogun State,
Chief Olusegun Osoba , business mogul, Chief Tunde Abudu,
and Chief Alani Bankole at the launch of the book on Egba
                                              monarchs.
Bankole, the Seriki Jagunmolu of Egbaland and Oluwo of
Iporo Sodeke /Iporo Ake, claimed to have witnessed one of
the most heart-breaking violations of tradition during the
performance of the traditional rites for the Lipede, the 9th
Alake of Egbaland, when the location of the remains of the
late Oba got enmeshed in controversy.
“In the days of old, nobody would dare make such move”, he
said.
Lipede ascended the throne in 1972 following the transition
of Oba Adesina Samuel Gbadebo on October 26,1971.
He died on February 3, 2005 after spending 33 years on the
throne, aged 90 years.
While revealing how the corpse of Lipede went missing
shortly before burial rites, Bankole said the transition of the
monarch did not go without some drama. Indeed, there was
a tussle between the kingmakers and the family of the late
monarch, particularly the youngest Olori who was alleged to
have taken the remains of the Oba away to the traditional
ruler’s private residence in the Government Reserved Area,
Ibara, Abeokuta.
“Traditionally,   as soon as an Oba joins his ancestors, his
family ceases to have control. So, the Olori or family,   does
not have the authority to go near his   remains, let alone
take them away. The impasse was resolved when the
kingmakers found the Oba’s remains in one   of the rooms
in the palace, but that was not without a thorough
search”, the Egba chief stated .
“If such thing occured, I would not blame the Olori or
whoever was involved in such abomination because, as it is
popularly said, if you give a hoe to a mad person, he will
till the soil to his side. I think that, we, kingmakers, should
take full responsibility for all the drama that happened.
“I make this statement on the grounds that we should have
been more proactive in our responsibilities. Ideally, the
moment we begin to sense that the health of an Alake is
deteriorating, all the occupants of the palace are supposed
to be sent packing and the palace taken over by the ‘Omo-
Iya-Marun’.
“Perhaps, I should state here that the palace does not
belong to the Alake because it is actually owned by the
entire sons and daughters of Egbaland and kept under the
care of the ‘Omo-Iya-Marun’.
“Aside the fact that we did not act according to the dictates
of our culture and tradition,   most of us arrived the palace
late. So, we provided the grounds for those traditionally
ignorant individuals to violate the tradition or, mildly put,
make attempt to do the unexpected. In the process of
searching for the remains of the Oba, we were shuttling
between the palace and the Government House for
consultation because the Alake is not an ordinary Oba”.
However, while speaking on the intrigues that greeted the
selection of the incumbent Alake, Oba Gbadebo, the
kingmaker claimed that government had wanted another
person to ascend the throne.
Bankole said government wanted a younger brother of the
incumbent as the new Alake.
“Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo became the Alake not with
my effort alone. During the struggle, one of the contestants
came to my house and told me that I was the only one
blocking him and that everyone had agreed except Sarafa
Ishola and the deputy governor.
“On the eve of the election, I got an anonymous telephone
call during which the caller told me that government had
decided to either scuttle what we wanted to do or make sure
somebody else was chosen”, Bankole said.
“I reported to Sarafa Ishola who called the then
Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs who confirmed to him
that they were taking some steps to install another person,
but I told them none of them was from Egba and that they
should leave the Egba sons to handle their affairs.
“On the first day we wanted to do the election, the then
governor was outside the country; Ishola ran to us in the
palace around 12 midnight and said he had come to plead
with us that the governor wasn’t around and wouldn’t want
us to run into collision with government, and we listened to
him.
“The truth was that the governor wanted somebody else and
he didn’t hide it. After the election, the governor phoned me
around 12 midnight accusing me of announcing the result of
the election; and I told him I only announced the result of the
election and not the choice of Alake and that he had the
audacity to disagree or allow it.
“He went ahead to write it in one of his books that the
present Alake was not as popular as Adeleke, but most of
you here are witnesses   to what happened when the new
Alake was announced; I have never seen such a tremendous
support for the Alake”.
He also revealed how he scuttled the plan by the then
administration to announce the Alake-elect within seven
days as against the provision of law which stipulated 14
days within which petitions are entertained. According to
him, the decision of the then administration was to create a
lacuna and good ground for other interested parties to fault
the selection of the Alake-elect.It would be recalled that Oba
Gbadebo continued to accuse the former governor of plans
to remove him.
In his remarks, the Alake acknowledged the role Bankole
played during the interregnum, saying he as a king maker,
refused to collect a dime from him when he was seeking the
throne.
“More importantly, when you are going to be an Alake, you
give free
traditional gifts to all other chiefs, it is free, you are not
compelled   the same way you were given when you were
being elected or
before the election of all kingmakers. The only one that
declined anything   from me throughout the six months, it
was exactly six months after the death of Oba Lipede,
that election was 3rd of August, Oba
Lipede died on 3rd of February, so for the six
months,Chief Alani Bankole told everybody else ‘I have
collected my own , so go and take your own’, but, he never
took any penny from me. For that singular reason today, I
should   show my love to him”, Oba Gbadebo stated.

How husband absconded after killing wife in Lagos

Tragedy struck in Egbeda, Lagos when a woman, identified
as Ronke Bewaji Shonde, was allegedly beaten to death by
her husband.

The suspect is on the run.
Ronke, according to sources, was resident, with her
husband, Lekan Shonde, and two children, at 5, Tiemo
Crescent, off Awori Street, Ile-Epo Alhaji, Egbeda where the
incident reportedly occurred.
The couple, it was learnt, fought on Friday morning during
which noise was heard from their flat.
Their nanny was said to have reported for work at about
7am but could not enter the apartment because it was
locked. She then peeped through the window and saw the
kids crying, trying to wake their mother.
A neighbour, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard, said that they
heard noise from the building but didn’t envisage it was
something as serious as death, until the nanny raised the
alarm.
The door to the couple’s flat was said to have been forced
open and the woman’s corpse found with blood stains on
her head.
Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer,
Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the alleged killing, said the
incident was reported by one Mrs Tiemo E.B at Idimu
Division, saying one of her tenants appeared to have been
killed. Badmus said the suspect couldn’t be traced since the
incident occurred while his phones had been switched off.
According to her, efforts were on to apprehend him, even as
the case had been transferred to the Homicide Section of
the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for
investigation.

Failed N100m ransome: Armed guards refused kingpin’s order to kill me – Senator Iyabo Anisulowo

Ogun State politician, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, who
spent seven days in kidnappers’ den after she was
abducted in Ilaro area of the state, narrates her ordeal.
What was the experience like, being in captivity for seven
days?
It was a wonderful experience.
It tells the story of the face of God on anyone’s life,
including myself.
It’s an excruciating and unexpected pain that I went through
in the hands of my captors.
Since your release some 24hours ago, how has the feeling
been?
The last 24hours since my release, I’m really happy
Your driver said some people crossed your path suddenly;
narrate what actually happened on that fateful day?
My driver and the occupants of the vehicle with me - a Civil
Defence young man who was my orderly - were accosted
and thrown out of the vehicle; I was prevented from running
out; and their own team entered my car and drove off.
They drove towards Imashayi.   I was coming from my
farm. They drove straight towards the forest and after we
turned at Aiyetoro, they parked inside the bush.   They
organised an Okada rider - it looked as if the Okada rider
had  been used for this type of operation before. One of the
men was armed. We mounted the bike and rode into the
Aiyetoro woodland.
How did your captors treat you while with them?
It was very tough, very very tough.
It was tough initially.
In the first forest where I was taken, I was moved to
another place where they would not be found.
Then their leader, who drove my car, came to join us later.
He told me what he needed from me, N100million
Did they torture you and did you sustain injuries of any
sort?
They did not torture me but the instrument of moving from
one point to another was very stressful and painful
We fell down several times on the bike in the forest and  the
exhaust pipe, the silencer of the bike burnt my leg.
They  didn’t allow me to cry; each time that happened, they
would say I should shut up because they did not want
people to suspect.
While in captivity, what was going through your mind?
In the beginning, I was confused because I  never thought
such could happen in our area.
But what was going on in my mind, especially after we
moved to the second bush, the gang leader said if I loved
myself, I should make contact quickly for the payment of
the N100 million  ransom so that I could leave their camp.
After the first negotiation, he disappeared.
How did you make contact? Did they do it for you or you
were allowed to make the contact?
They  seized  my phones and the kingpin had everything.
When he came again, it was at the third camp.
According to what they were discussing, I think they got a
wrong information. They were looking for money and they
said they  won’t release me unless they got money.
All the contacts on my phone, the kingpin had access to
them and then he would ask me who to call.
He would make the call and make it conference call so I
couldn’t say much because he would hear whatever I said.
I think by the second day, I had a slight idea of where we
were because there were some churches in the distance
doing night vigil and they were talking about the area while
praying, Obada, but I couldn’t disclose where I was.
They started calling people that I had been captured by
kidnappers and that they should bring N100million.
People were saying they would negotiate and people were
begging them that they should reduce the ransom.
The kingpin said even if I didn’t have money, I had influence
and I should be able to raise the money thorough people
who would love me not to die.
While there, who were you thinking of?
I was thinking about  the rocks of God.
As in among family members or friends, who were the
people you were  thinking of?
I was thinking of everyone that I had had contact with, that I
love, especially the people around me here in Ilaro.
What about the rescue?
I didn’t eat. I was fasting.   I told them I needed water, two
bottles of water. I was taking that every day,
But at some point, even the people knew the game was up.
It was the armed guard among them who lamented that
‘madam, your people are not cooperating and we have been
told to kill you’.
But he said he  didn’t have the mind to kill me.
He then told me that, some times, even after people had
paid ransom, they still killed their victims.
But I said ‘God will not allow you to kill me’.
I also told them that I had offered them what I could offer
which they rejected and that if I had N100million, I would
not be farming and even if I would be farming I would be a
distant farmer.
It was just the favour of God that I got, that made me
survive the ordeal.
It was just God.   We were in the same forest for those days
and we were moving from one place to the other - in the
same forest.
Even some Fulani herdsmen were moving about in the
forest but they didn’t want people to know something like
abduction or kidnap had happened. So each time the
herdsmen were around, they would quickly move to another
location.
On the day I was released, I discovered that things were not
getting any easier for them, so one of them came to me and
said ‘madam, you are going home today’.
I thought I would be left alone to move out in the bush but
they said no, that they were calling the same Okada man to
come and pick us at a particular time.
I didn’t believe it would happen but at about 4pm, the man
surfaced with food in a polythene bag and said I should eat
but I refused and said no, that if I would eat, I would do that
when I get home.
Then suddenly, the rain started again. Even the day I was
captured, there was a  downpour.
Would you forgive them?

I have forgiven them, not my captors but the boys that were
with me in the bush there.
One of them said they had been told to kill me but that they
could not.
One even said they were not making any money from the
deal.   I said I knew, although I wasn’t too sure.
Because what I had offered them would have at least helped
them to clean up.
I have forgiven those four  boys and if I have an opportunity
of a reform, I would do it for them.

Tiwa Savage-Teebillz crisis: Label mates keep mum

Since Tiwa Savage –Teebillz marriage crisis began, many
entertainers have been wading in, making comments, taking
sides and saying all sort of things, but not Tiwa Savage’s
label mates.

                                                                Tiwa Savage and TeeBillz

They have maintained social media and radio silence over
the issue. It’s like they have been instructed not to

months after the latter emerged from a rehabilitation

The businessman, who took responsibility for the

said in a telephone interview with our correspondent
that Majek ceased to be under his care since the day
the (musician) returned to Lagos against his wish.
Explaining the circumstances in which Majek left,
Emami said, “Majek Fashek is not under my care.
When he left the rehabilitation home in Abuja, the
doctors said that he needed to relax. They said he
should stay off the music scene for some time. I
wanted him to stay in Warri and relax. I provided
everything that he needed to be comfortable. But he
insisted on going back to music almost immediately.
He kept insisting and, after a while, I had to let him go.
That was it.”
Back in Lagos, fans of the reggae star were overjoyed
when they learnt that he had been checked into a
rehab home. The general assumption at the time was
that Emami planned to sign him on to his music label.
But they were wrong. The billionaire said that although
Majek expressed the desire to be signed on, he had
opposed it.
Emami said, “He wanted to join my music label, but I
said no. I didn’t want other people to think that I did
him a favour because I wanted him to sign on to the
label. Instead, I told him that I could get him a good
manager that would take care of him and his career,
get him a car and every other thing.
“I travelled and by the time I returned one evening,
Majek was already in Lagos.”

Although Majek had performed in some musical
shows in Lagos, Emami said he was only aware of his
performance during the 2015 Felabration event at the
Afrika Shrine. “He went there with my band. I didn’t
even want him to go to Lagos until he had rested
properly, as the doctors advised,” he said.
When contacted, Majek initially denied that his
relationship with Chief Emami was strained. “We are
working together,” he had said. Then, realising that
the billionaire had already spoken with our
correspondent about it, he added, “We are still doing
business together, but it is not like it used to be.”
Confronted with the allegation that he left Emami
because the latter did not honour his request for
money, Majek said, “It is not like that. I am an
American-trained musician. When I was in America, I
studied music and music business. So I am not in the
same level as the average Nigerian musician. I am an
international musician. Emami wanted to place me on
the same level as Nigerian musicians and to control
my music business. So I decided to move.”
